You need a fucking vacation.

This isn’t some Fight the power! session; this is the truth.

I wrote a lot of inspirational quotes on my whiteboard when I started my new job:

“My favorite age is now.”
“Never touch anything with half your heart.”
“She who dares, wins.”

Mushy shit like that.

One contender that didn’t make it was “My goal is to build a life I don’t need a vacation from!”

As a firm believer that you should love the shit out of your life—from your clothes to your job to the sheets you sleep in every night—I see the appeal.

Like, what the fuck’s the point of my life if I don’t want to constantly be living it?

Days before my week-long Mexican getaway, I was ready to get the fuck out. Out from my jobs and my responsibilities and my dishes and my workouts.

I feared Well, shit. Time to find a new job and a new house and a new life.

But I came back from vacation ready to slay, bitch.

Recharged, excited, and very much my normal amount of Zen (which is quite a bit, so long as I remember to hydrate), it clicked. While I shouldn’t need to take a vacation from my life, I still need to relax, recharge, and breathe.

Vacationing is part of life; it’s not an escape from it.

So take your goddamn vacation.
