A friend recently asked how I come back from a bad mood. (Especially those bad moods where you know you’re in a bad mood and there’s no reason to be in a bad mood, and that puts you in a badder mood.)
All that my years of wisdom could muster was:
Play fetch with the dog.
On really stressful days, or days I wake up cranky, I convince myself there isn’t time for anything but work. Everything else—laundry, dishes, mealtime, coffee breaks, fetch, stretching—is distraction.
Holy shit, girl, calm down.
That head-spinny overwhelmed moment is the exact moment to step away and switch out the laundry. Unload the dishwasher. And then play fetch with the dog.
In those head-spinny moments, do something simple.
Or productive. Or for someone else. Or brief. Anything but the one fucking thing you feel like you need to do, because you’ll come back to that one thing clearer and more focused (and less bad moody).
