I don’t give a shit what you believe.

In case you think that’s a typo:

I don’t give two fucks what your personal opinions are.

I’ll dialogue with you about them.
I’ll share my own personal opinions.
I’ll even engage in a little respectful debate.

Hell, I might even agree with you, and I’ll debate you anyway.

But your thoughts on abortion, on gun control, on drug abuse, on religion, on LGBTQ+ rights, on birth control, on systematic racism don’t mean shit if they’re not founded in research.

Your misinformed opinions are deadlier than any legislation.

Because when you don’t have all the facts, you don’t know what the fuck is going on. And if you don’t know what the fuck is going on, you can’t fix what the fuck is going on.

I know I’m cursing a lot more than usual today. But I’m really pissed off.

And not because people disagree with meβ€”I genuinely believe that no one person or party ever has the right answer. Persons and parties who disagree should dialogue, review the facts, and come to a mutual decision.

In short, we need people who disagree. I need you, and you need me.

But I’m still pissed because the stakes are high and no one seems to fucking care.

Because the stakes are actual living people.

Your opinions on abortion, on gun control, on drug abuse, on religion, on LGBTQ+ rights, on birth control, on systematic racism affect real human people. Your misinformation does no good; on the contrary, it does all bad.

Do your goddam research.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree. Debates mean nothing if they’re only based on feelings rather than facts. Healthy debate based on factual information is in fact NECESSARY to academia and politics. My dad and I (usually on different ends of the spectrum when it comes to social policies), had this discussion recently. There is no point in having an opinion on something if you don’t bother to have the facts. It is pointless to SHARE that opinion if you aren’t willing to factually defend it, or change your view point if presented new factual evidence. You can certainly HAVE an opinion, they’re like assholes. But what’s the point in having it if you’re not going to shit or get off of the pot? (Gross analogy)
I myself like to play devil’s advocate when it comes to social issues. I work hard to see every angle of something and to understand why people feel the way they do. I’ve changed my mind several times regarding certain issues, based on new arguments or evidence, personal experience and testimonies from people. My political stance isn’t one particular way or another. I refuse to align myself with any party because the bi-partisan thing isn’t working. Honestly, until we start working together, we will forever be divided and this country WILL fail. That’s my opinion though πŸ˜‰

      1. I totally agree on all accounts and LOVE your shitty analogy πŸ˜‰ there are so many layers to everything, and only way we can find the “right” answer is with everyone from all sides engaging in dialogue. I love hearing that you can do that with your family! I know some folks that can’t, and it breaks my heart.
